Goldenrod in Bloom

The goldenrod was in full bloom this afternoon as I drove back from my open house and I couldn’t resist stopping on CR 188 to snap this beautiful stand. They get a bad rap from allergy sufferers but in fact they don’t broadcast pollen like ragweed, which is the true cause of hay fever this time time of year. Besides, bees love them and who doesn’t love honey?

Black Haw Berries: Good Fresh or In A Pie

Black haw berries

Fall is the time for picking black haw berries

My late Aunt Mable ate them right off the tree, but they’re also wonderful in pies or jam. They’re tart and sweet. and the tree is pretty, too, especially in the fall, when the leaves turn red. I have eaten a few berries off this tree over the past few years…in memory of my Aunt Mable.

Great in jams and pies
